Video games are typically sedentary activities, but some games, such as Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) or Wii Fit, actually help us stay physically active while having fun.
According to a study conducted by the Mayo Clinic, children who used so-called "exergames" became three times more active even after they stopped playing video games. The video games actually encouraged them to exercise more, not less.
Although people shouldn't depend on a video game to stay physically fit, it's a great start. The exercises found in DDR and Wii Fit are similar to light aerobic exercise, and may be a great substitute for walking or jogging.
But which muscle groups do these games target? If you're playing DDR, it's your legs, stomach and feet; if you're playing Wii Fit, you're also exercising your arms. It also improves the strength of your heart, forcing you to exert more energy to complete the missions in each game.
